NYSERDA Selects Green Home Logic to Provide Home Energy Ratings For Homeowners in Queens

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today announced that it has selected Green Home Logic, LLC to deliver home energy ratings for homeowners in Queens, as part of the first phase of the Home Energy Ratings Pilot. The Home Energy Ratings Pilot is designed to help owners of one- to four- family homes who are ready to invest in their homes and are looking for independent, trustworthy energy performance information. Today’s announcement supports Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s 2025 energy efficiency target of 185 trillion BTUs (British thermal units) in energy savings, the equivalent to energy consumed by 1.8 million New York homes, and supports the Governor’s Green New Deal, a nation-leading clean energy and jobs agenda that put New York on a path to a carbon-free economy.

Home Energy Ratings are similar to a “Miles Per Gallon” rating on a car, providing easy-to-understand visual reports that give the homeowner insight into how their home performs in areas like insulation, air leakage, heating and cooling efficiency, and hot water heating.
Green Home Logic Inc (West Hempstead, NY) will provide Queens homeowners with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Home Energy Score. Each rating comes with a list of recommendations that helps the homeowner plan upgrades to increase the efficiency and comfort of their home.

Queens is one of two New York communities – along with Tompkins County – where homeowners will be eligible to receive a home energy rating at no cost during the initial phase of the pilot. Planning is underway for future phases of the pilot in 2019 with Irondequoit, Broome County, Staten Island, and Tonawanda as additional pilot locations.
To support the launch of the Home Energy Rating Pilot, NYSERDA will host an information session to inform homeowners about the benefits of a home energy rating. The information session will be held on June 20, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Samuel Field Y (Common Point Queens) – 58-20 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck, NY 11362.

This pilot supports Governor Cuomo’s New Efficiency: New York 2025 energy efficiency target to reduce energy consumption by 185 trillion BTUs below forecasted energy use in 2025. Meeting the target will accelerate achievement of energy efficiency in the next seven years by more than 40 percent over the current path and will set New York State on a path to achieve annual electric efficiency savings of 3 percent of investor-owned utility sales in 2025.
Funding for this program comes from the state’s 10-year, $5.3 billion Clean Energy Fund, a core component of New York State’s Reforming the Energy Vision strategy to achieve a clean, resilient and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers.
