Big Changes Coming to NYSERDA’s Comfort Home Rebates in 2025

If you're thinking about improving your home’s energy efficiency, now is a great time to act — especially with important changes coming to NYSERDA’s Comfort Home rebate program.

Starting soon, several of the rebate amounts offered through this popular program are shifting. Here's what homeowners need to know:

What’s Changing?

1. More for Attic and Rim Joist Insulation (Package A)
The rebate for attic and rim joist insulation is increasing significantly — from $1,600 to $2,500. This is a great opportunity for homeowners looking to make a big impact on energy efficiency and comfort, especially in older homes where heat loss through the attic is common.

2. Wall Insulation (Package B) Stays the Same
The rebate for insulating exterior walls remains at $3,000 — one of the most valuable upgrades for reducing heating and cooling costs.

3. Lower Rebate for Window Replacements (Package C)
This is where we’re seeing the biggest reduction. The rebate for energy-efficient window upgrades will drop from $4,000 to $2,000. If windows are on your to-do list, we recommend moving quickly to take advantage of the current incentive.

What If You Combine Packages?

NYSERDA is also adjusting how rebates work when combining upgrades:

  • Package B + C (Walls + Windows): $3,000 total

  • Package A + B + C (Attic + Walls + Windows): Still just $3,000 total

This means that combining all three packages won’t increase your rebate, unlike in previous versions of the program. The focus now seems to be on prioritizing the most cost-effective and impactful upgrades — especially insulation.

What This Means for Homeowners

If you're planning to make energy efficiency upgrades this year, timing is everything. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Act quickly if you’re planning a window replacement to take advantage of the current higher rebate.

  • Consider attic and rim joist insulation as a first step — the boosted rebate makes it more appealing than ever.

  • Don’t wait too long — program changes can take effect quickly, and available funding can run out.
